Slit Lamp Setup & Components

Illustration: Slit Lamp Setup & Components
The slit lamp biomicroscope combines a variable-width light source (illumination arm) with a binocular microscope (observation arm) that pivot around a common focal point. Key components include: illumination system with variable slit width, height, and angle; binocular microscope with 10x and 16x eyepieces; magnification changer (6x-40x); joystick for XYZ positioning; chin rest and forehead strap. Proper setup: adjust table height so patient is comfortable; align the outer canthus mark with the patient's lateral canthus; ensure the patient's forehead is firmly against the strap.

Key Points

  • Illumination and observation arms share a common focal point
  • Variable slit width, height, and angle control
  • Align outer canthus mark with patient's lateral canthus
  • Forehead firmly against strap for stability
  • Standard magnifications: 10x, 16x, 25x, 40x
